On July 1, 2025, I, Deputy Anderson, responded to 2320 Salem Rd regarding a potential robbery.
Upon arrival in the area, the caller, [WITNESS #1], relayed a description of the suspect as a younger black male wearing all black with dreads, heading in the direction of the nearby Food Depot. As I made my approach, I observed a male walking back in the direction of the McDonalds. I made contact with the male, later identified as Jonathan Colas.
I ordered Mr. Colas to stop moving and keep his hands up; due to the nature of the call, I unholstered my duty weapon, having it in the “sul” position. Mr. Colas complied with all orders, and I was able to detain Mr. Colas; however, before I asked him anything, Mr. Colas admitted he was the suspect, stating, “It was me; I did it.” I then escorted Mr. Colas to my vehicle, securing him inside the rear.
Mr. Colas was read his Miranda rights and refused to speak without representation; at that point, all communication had ceased.
I then returned to McDonald’s and spoke with the caller/manager, [WITNESS #1]; she advised that Mr. Colas had arrived at the restaurant and asked her for a cigarette. When she denied him, Mr. Colas entered the restaurant, ran past the front counter, and into the kitchen, where he approached the drive-thru window cashier, [REDACTED]. Mr. [REDACTED] noticed Mr. Colas heading in his direction and slammed his cash register shut. Seconds later, Mr. Colas reached toward him, and a slight scuffle began.
Mr. Colas was able to break free and was later apprehended.
